Over Cleansers for Every Skin Type

Cleansing is the step your whole routine depends on. A cleanser removes sebum, sunscreen, make-up and dirt from your skin, so the products you apply afterwards can actually do their job. Regular soap isn't suitable for your face: it's too alkaline and breaks down the skin barrier, the outer layer that keeps moisture in. This collection holds gel, cream, mousse and balm cleansers for every skin type.

Which cleanser suits your skin?

  • Oily or blemish-prone skin. A mousse or gel cleanses thoroughly without leaving an oily film. The mesoestetic purifying mousse is built for oily skin. Read more about oily skin.
  • Dry or sensitive skin. Choose a cream or oil cleanser that doesn't foam. The mesoestetic hydracream fusion is a gentle cream-oil that cleanses and nourishes at once.
  • All skin types, sensitive included. A mild gel cleanser works for almost everyone. The Image Skincare ORMEDIC Balancing Facial Cleanser suits every skin type.
  • Short on time or wearing a lot of make-up. A 3-in-1 cleanser combines cleansing, toning and make-up removal in a single step, such as the ALPHA-H Balancing Cleanser.

What to look for when choosing

  • Lukewarm water, not hot. Hot water strips the last bit of oil from your skin and makes redness worse.
  • Twice a day is enough. Cleansing more often dries out your skin, even an oily one. Some people can get away with just water in the morning.
  • If your skin feels tight after cleansing, the cleanser is too strong. That tight feeling isn't a sign that your skin is clean.
  • Wearing sunscreen or make-up? Cleanse twice in the evening. Start with a balm or oil that dissolves the product, then follow with your regular cleanser.
  • You don't need scrub particles. If you want to exfoliate, choose a product with an acid instead. The mesoestetic brightening foam is an AHA cleansing gel that exfoliates while it cleanses.

Advice from our skin therapist

In practice, we see more skin problems caused by cleansing too much than too little. People with shiny skin reach for a strong, foaming cleanser twice a day, then wonder why their skin looks even shinier.

Our advice: choose a cleanser that leaves your skin feeling soft afterwards, not tight. Lukewarm water, gentle massaging, pat dry. If you wear sunscreen during the day, cleanse twice in the evening; that's the only moment double cleansing really pays off.

If you keep dealing with redness, flaking or a burning feeling after cleansing, have it checked by a skin therapist.
