Over Skincare for Normal Skin Types

Normal skin usually feels comfortable: not oily, not dry, rarely shiny and rarely a breakout. That doesn't mean you can skip skincare altogether. This skin type ages too, gets sun exposure and dries out in winter. This collection holds mild cleansers, serums with vitamin C or hyaluronic acid, light moisturisers and SPF.

What to look for with normal skin

  • Keep what's working. Three steps are enough: cleanse, hydrate, protect.
  • SPF every day. Sun is the biggest cause of fine lines and pigmentation, even on skin without any obvious issues.
  • Vitamin C in the morning. This is an antioxidant, a substance that limits damage from sun and pollution. It supports an even, fresh-looking complexion.
  • Don't add too much at once. Normal skin tempts you to experiment. Add one new product a month, so you know what's doing what.
  • Watch the seasons. Your cream can be a little richer in winter and lighter in summer.

Building a routine

Morning

  1. Cleanse with a mild cleanser, such as the ALPHA-H Balancing Cleanser with vitamin E and aloe vera.
  2. Apply a vitamin C serum, for example the ALPHA-H Vitamin C Serum with 3% vitamin C and hyaluronic acid.
  3. Finish with a day cream with SPF, such as the Medik8 Advanced Day Total Protect SPF30.

Evening

  1. Cleanse again, especially if you've worn SPF or make-up.
  2. Use a mild exfoliant, a product with an acid that loosens dead skin cells, one or two evenings a week.
  3. Finish with a moisturiser that suits the season, such as one from our night creams.

Advice from our skin therapist

In practice, we see people with normal skin go in one of two directions. One group does nothing, not even SPF, and suddenly notices fine lines and dark spots around forty. The other group uses eight products just because they can, and ends up with unsettled skin.

Our advice: start with cleansing, vitamin C and SPF in the morning, and a moisturiser in the evening. This skin type usually doesn't need much more. From around thirty, you can add retinol in the evening, building up slowly on two evenings a week. If your skin feels tight in winter, just switch your cream.
