Over Night Creams for Every Skin Type

A night cream can be richer than a day cream, since it doesn't need to sit well under make-up or sunscreen. That means it can be more nourishing. It can also contain ingredients you'd rather not use during the day, such as retinal, a form of vitamin A. This collection holds night creams for every skin type, from light gel creams to rich creams.

Which night cream suits your skin?

  • Dry or sensitive skin. Choose something nourishing and soothing. The ALPHA-H Essential Hydration Cream is a day and night cream for all skin types.
  • Oily or combination skin. A light gel cream is enough, such as the mesoestetic hydra-vital light. Read more about oily skin.
  • Normal to dry skin that wants more. The mesoestetic hydra-vital factor k is a richer cream for normal and dry skin.
  • Mature or very dry skin. The Image Skincare VITAL C Hydrating Repair Crème is a night cream for mature and very dry skin.

Why a different cream at night?

  • No SPF needed. Sunscreen belongs as the last step during the day; at night that step falls away. Read more about sun protection.
  • No make-up on top. The texture can therefore be heavier and absorb more slowly.
  • Retinal belongs in the evening. This form of vitamin A makes your skin more sensitive to sunlight, so you use it at night and apply SPF during the day. Read more about fine lines.
  • One cream can work too. If your day cream suits you well and you don't use separate active ingredients, a dedicated night cream isn't required.
  • Richer in winter. The same skin often needs more in January than it does in July.

Advice from our skin therapist

We're often asked whether a night cream really adds anything, or whether it's mainly a second jar. Honest answer: if you don't do anything special in the evening, your day cream works just fine.

Our advice: a separate night cream is worth it if your skin feels tight in the morning. It's also worth it if you use retinal or acids and want something nourishing over the top.

What you shouldn't do is switch every evening. Give one cream a month before you judge it.
