Why you want to cleanse your face with a cleanser (and not with soap and water!)

Don't use a cleanser yet and wash your face with just soap and water? Then it's time for a change! Cleansing your face with a good cleanser is the first step towards beautiful skin. So believe us, you'll want that too!
A good cleanser: The first step to beautiful skin.
Maybe you cleanse your face every night with a facial cleansing wipe or micellar water. Or you simply rinse your face under the tap. We get it: it's quick and easy. But if you really want to take good care of your skin, it's important to put an end to those habits as soon as possible. Cleansing your face with a good cleanser is the first step to beautiful skin. So believe us, you want that too!
Isn't water enough?
Washing your face with water alone isn't enough, as water doesn't dissolve oil and makeup. If your skin is dry or sensitive, salts, limescale, and chlorine in the water can also dry it out further, especially when using very hot water. Furthermore, soap residue doesn't dissolve well in hard water, and Dutch drinking water is quite hard in some places. In short: cleaning your skin with water alone is n't enough, even if you have dry or normal skin.
Washing your face with soap and water isn't an option either. Soap disrupts the balance of facial skin, which is much more sensitive than the rest of your skin. Therefore, never use the same soap on your face that you use on the rest of your body.

What does a cleanser do?
A good cleanser with the right ingredients for your skin type cleanses your skin without disrupting its barrier function. Think of the barrier as a kind of armor: it's a waterproof seal that holds the outer layers of the skin together. A healthy skin barrier leaves your skin feeling smooth and soft, while a damaged barrier feels dull, rough, and dry. Therefore, it's important to keep your skin's barrier healthy by using a gentle cleanser. Another thing: it's best to always use a cleanser that you rinse off with water after use. A cleanser you wipe over your face with a cotton pad always leaves residue, which definitely causes long-term problems.
How do you use a cleanser?
You use a cleanser morning and evening as the first step in your skincare routine. You only need a small amount: using too much won't improve results and can actually cause skin problems. Most cleansers are lathered in your hands and gently massaged over your face. Then, rinse the product off with lukewarm water, and it's time for the next steps in your skincare routine. Your skin is now fully prepared to absorb all the active ingredients.
Tip: If you wear makeup, use a special eye makeup remover before applying cleanser, and always wash your hair first in the shower. Many shampoos contain ingredients that can irritate your skin. So, these should be removed as soon as possible!
